Yesterday was a milestone day when it comes to my postpartum fitness. 12 days after giving birth, I made my triumphant return to the gym. With my last gym workout having been back on December 10th when I was 38 weeks pregnant, it felt incredible to walk through the doors of the gym and to be back in my fitness “home.”
Although I’ve already completed two walks outside pushing little man in his stroller, it felt great to be back at the gym. Since walking is the only form of exercise that I’m currently cleared for, I powerwalked 2.25 miles on the treadmill. Getting a little sweaty at the gym has never felt so good.
I know that I still have a long way to go when it comes to getting back to my pre-pregnancy fitness levels, but taking baby steps, such as powerwalking, will slowly but surely help me to get back to where I was before I became pregnant. Although I enjoyed those two stroller walks, and am looking forward to many more with my little man, there was also something very fulfilling about spending 35 minutes doing cardio at the gym.
Here’s to more slow and steady progress as I steadily work towards getting back at running again!
QOTD: What fitness activity are you most looking forward to doing this year?
That’s fantastic! Glad you’re able to enjoy some gym time now. Probably also great for your mental health too…endorphins and all that stuff 🙂
Yesterday’s gym session was definitely great for my mental health.
wow thats incredible, I havent had a baby but I imagine myself being stuck on the couch for a few weeks before getting the nerve to exercise again!
I’m actually very eager to get moving again. Just trying to take things easy and one day at a time, and of course listening to the doctor’s orders too.
I can totally understand the feeling of pride and accomplishment of getting in a gym workout after being away for a while. I’m glad that’s making you feel better! Here’s to many more great workouts!
Yes, I’m hopeful for many more great workouts as I continue to recover and get back into my normal fitness routine.
You look FANTASTIC! Good for you for getting back to the gym so quickly!
Thanks Sarah!
Great job girl!!! And you are looking amazing!!!
Thanks Mindy!
WOW, I am so impressed by your commitment and ability to get back in there so quickly! Good luck with progressing even more.
Thanks, I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to get another gym session in within the next couple of days.
Great job! Nothing beats being back at your fitness home.
Definitely!
Get it girl! It’s always the best feeling getting back to your routine and getting active again!
Most definitely!
Wow impressive that you could get to the gym so quickly and have the energy ha ha!
It helps that my mom has been here to help, especially on the couple of rough days that we’ve had. Otherwise, I doubt I would have had the energy.
Yay! It must have felt so great to be back at it!
It felt incredible, Janelle.
You don’t even look like you just gave birth, lucky girl!
Very impressive, not many can get the energy or time to get back to fitness so quick, not that I have had kids. But I watched my sisters give me 8 incredibly cute nieces and nephews and I remember going to their homes the weeks after to help out, and they did not have your energy:) Must have something to do with you being able to stay so fit throughout, and not having to deal with bedrest or other limitations!
Say your cute baby pics on FB, he is seriously adorable! Enjoy being new parents!!!
Thanks Kristy. With how sore and swollen I’ve been, it definitely feels like I just gave birth. Trust me! 🙂
Kathryn, you look great! Glad you got some “me” time at the gym.
Thanks Jenny. My “me” time was definitely needed, but I was also glad to get back home to my little man. 🙂
Look at you go! You look awesome and good for you for getting back into the gym!
Thanks Juliana!
Yey for gym time! There is definitely something about getting that blood flowing again and getting those few moments of YOU time!!
Exactly!
