Greetings from Virginia Beach! Preston and I have been here since Friday night for Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach race weekend. Its been a blast, despite the fact that the weather hasn’t been so great, including some rain during yesterday’s half marathon. This was our third time here for race weekend, and though we normally look forward to and are able to enjoy some beach time during our mini racecation, that just hasn’t happened this weekend. Thus is life, and we’ve found plenty else to keep ourselves occupied, including a trip to the outlets on Saturday.
The highlights of our time here have of course been the races. On Saturday I completed the Mile on the Sand, and though I walked the race it was much harder than I anticipated. While we were on vacation in Florida I completed a couple of walks on the beach in order to practice for this race, but let me tell you, walking on a Gulf Coast beach and walking on an Atlantic Coast beach are two different beasts.
Then yesterday I completed my fifth half marathon, and my first one pregnant. My one and only goal was to cross the finish line, which I did! I was quite emotional at the finish, but I’m so proud to say that I ran a half marathon at 24 weeks pregnant!
This past week was also my first full week back at work, which was more exhausting than I thought it would be. Between a couple of long days of meetings and preparing my classroom for the new school year, it was a long, full, and tiring week. I’m happy to report that with the exception of one task that I’ll be working on in the car during our drive home today I’m ready to welcome my students for the new school year!
In preparation for race weekend, I took the past week really easy as far as my training was concerned. After coming home from work most days completely exhausted, there were several days that I didn’t want to work out. In hindsight, I’m glad that I took it really easy as far as my training was concerned, as it allowed for my legs to be as rested as possible in anticipation of this past weekend’s races.

As usual, I’ll be recapping the entire weekend’s events, though my recaps might be a bit slower than usual. In addition to kicking off the new school year with my students tomorrow, I also have a number of exciting posts planned for September, including an awesome giveaway coming up later this month! Stay tuned!
QOTD: What did you do over Labor Day weekend?
Odd that it rained down there – it was gorgeous here in D.C. I’ve had a great mix of running, cycling and relaxing!
Definitely odd weather!
You rock mama! congrats so impressive really. Running on sand is always hard on my calves too. Feel good!
Thanks Deborah!
Congrats on your race! I couldn’t imagine running that distance while pregnant! You are truly amazing!
Thanks Wendy!
Way to go Kathryn! You look great in your photos. Hope you get to relax a little today and good luck with the first day of school (with the kiddos)
Thanks Jenny! It took longer to drive home than we thought, even with leaving in the morning. Oh well, we’re home now!
Our weather has been very humid, but at least we got some rain out of it on Saturday. I don’t think it did much but we needed the rain.
Its been very humid here as well. 😦
Congrats Kathryn! Bummer the weather didn’t cooperate but it looks like you had fun anyway. All the best with the new school year!
Thanks Marcia! And yes, it was a fun race, despite the weather.
Congratulations on your race! And good luck with your new school year.
Thanks Debbie!
Congratulations on your race! And that room looks ready to go! Nice job.
Thanks Elizabeth! It took a lot of long hours to get the room ready since we have to take everything down at the end of every school year.
I worked out during the long weekend! Can you believe it’s back to school time already ): I’m not ready for the semester to start!
This summer just flew by!
Congrats on the race! I didn’t run at all when I was pregnant, so I’m totally impressed. Can’t wait to hear more about it.
Thanks Erika! Can’t wait to piece together my recaps.
