I’m back, and it feels so good to be back here on the blog! While it was good to take a much needed vacation from blogging, work, and life in general, I feel very refreshed and am eager to catch back up with everybody! It feels good to be back home, although I’m very grateful that I still have another week off from work.
After 10 nights away from home, we made it back safely last night. After our five days at Disney World we spent another five nights in New Jersey, celebrating Christmas with Preston’s side of the family, as well as my grandfather. We had an absolutely wonderful Christmas celebration!
Once we got home last night we gave Riley his Christmas present – a new Pluto that we picked up while we were at Disney World. To say that Riley was excited about his present is an understatement. Just look at how happy our sweet boy was to receive his new toy last night!
Despite the high ambitions I had for keeping up with my training while we were away (I packed plenty of running clothes in order to motivate myself), I only ran twice while we were on vacation. I ran the morning of our first full day at Disney, and then didn’t run again until six days later. Between trying to fit in as much as possible while we were at Disney, and then coming down with an awful cold when we arrived back in New Jersey that I’m still battling, working out just wasn’t in the cards for me. I’m itching to get back out there, so I’m hopeful that I’m able to quickly recover now that we’re back home.

The past two weeks have put me significantly behind in making progress towards meeting my monthly mileage goal. Given that I’m still sick, I know that reaching my goal of 70 miles is completely unrealistic, but I’m also not trying to beat myself up too much about it. We did a lot of walking while at Disney World, and in the long run, I know that the past two weeks won’t be too much of a set back in terms of my half marathon training.
QOTD: How was your Christmas? Do you try to keep up with your training while on an extended vacation, or do you take a break from training while you’re away from home?
You did so much in the last two weeks! I give myself a break when I am traveling away from home (usually because it doesn’t happen too often!) but I do try to stay as active as possible. Walking around the Disney parks is a complete workout in itself! 😛

Walking around the parks is definitely a workout! My sister in law tracked over 9 miles of walking in just one day!
Beautiful pictures! Sounds like you had a wonderful holiday. Even though you didn’t get as much running in as you’d like, walking around the parks all day is a workout in itself.
It definitely is!
I’m sorry to hear you’re sick. Hopefully you’re better soon! I love the photo of you guys all on your phone and the one with the green army man 🙂 I agree that walking around the parks is a ton of mileage and definitely a workout.
Thanks, I’m very eager to get up and running again! We loved plotting our Tower of Terror phone photo! 🙂
Sounds like y’all had a great Christmas! And I’m glad you aren’t beating yourself up about your workouts–All the walking will still help you in your half marathon training!
I’ve taken a break while being away for Christmas, but I’m looking forward to getting back home and into a routine today!
I’m so glad that I still have this week off from work. It’ll make getting back into my workout routine a little easier.
Give yourself time to recover and don’t beat yourself up over not hitting all your mileage goals. Life happens and you can’t always do what you planned to do. I was hoping to start my half marathon training shortly after my recent marathon, but a minor injury has held me back some and forced me to reassess plans! You are doing great and I’m sure all your training will pay off 🙂
Thanks Charissa. I’m hoping the extra rest will pay off. 🙂
Looks like you had an amazing time in Disney! Don’t worry about the missed training…the walking in Disney definitely accounts for something! Yes I continued training through the holiday. I’m still doing my run streak so still got out there. Plus my next half is at the end of January so I’m right in the middle of training.
Your run streak continues to amaze me, Mindy. Way to go!
The green army man photo is priceless….that one needs to be framed. So sorry you’ve been sick, but thankfully you were able to enjoy the holidays. And by the way, walking around Disney is a big workout too!
When I print some Disney photos off, the one of Preston and the Green Army Man will definitely be one of them!
I tried the same on vacation. I packed workout clothes, had every intention of doing cardio and foam rolling and yoga, but then I got the flu, so I only did cardio for 2 days. At least I’m getting the rest I wanted away from work.
Thank goodness for that!
Aw the picture of your dog and his present is adorable!
Thanks Kaci! I think so too. 🙂
Love the PJ and Christmas light picture! Sorry to hear you caught the cold and hope you are feeling better. You did a lot of walking at Disney – I am sure you will pick up where you left off in terms of Shamrock training 🙂
That’s what I’m hoping for as well.
Wow, what a cool trip! So fun! I haven’t worked out in oh….. 4 weeks now, so you should be ok with taking a week off 😉 I’m supposed to be training for my Paris marathon but that isn’t happening 😦
Hope you feel better soon too! It sounds like we’re all eager to get back out there.
