If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile now, then you know that I didn’t have the best experience back in April at the annual Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run. Between being placed in the wrong corral, spending much of the race trying to maneuver around runners slower than me, and there not being much food left for slower runners like myself at the end of the race, my first Cherry Blossom experience was quite disappointing.
Because of how much Preston enjoyed his first Cherry Blossom experience back in 2012, as well as what I’ve heard from others, I was very disappointed that I didn’t have a better experience. My own race experience left much to be desired, but I decided that I’d enter the lottery for the 2015 race, and if I was selected then it was meant for me to give this race another try, and if I wasn’t selected then it wasn’t meant to be. Given the low registration cost of this race, I don’t feel as though I’ll be wasting money by giving this race another chance.
I found out early yesterday morning that I have successfully gained entry into the 2015 race. I’m optimistic that this year will be a better race experience for me, and if it isn’t, then I’ll know for certain that this race just isn’t for me. I want to give this race one more chance to see if this year was just a fluke or if my feelings about this race are truly confirmed.
Regardless, I’m excited to experience another race with Preston, especially since he has decided to start limiting the number of races that he will register for, at least for 2015.
QOTD: Do you ever rerun a race that you didn’t have a positive experience at previously in hopes of having a better experience? Will you be running the 2015 Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run?

Congratulations on winning an entry to the Cherry Blossom. Hope you get to redeem yourself.
Thanks Lacey!
Good for you. I think with all things it’s best to leave room for error and always give a second chance.
I hope it’s a much better experience this time around.
Thanks Haley! I’m hoping for a much better experience!
Congrats on winning an entry! I think it’s good to give this race a second try. I hope this experience is better for you than the last! This race is on my bucket list for 2016 🙂
Karen @karenlovestorun
Thanks Karen! I’m hopeful that this year will be a better year. 🙂
Glad that you get to try it again! If I had a bad experience I might not run it again but because the registration fee is low and it is local, it’s worth another go! Good luck! -M
I’m giving it another try for those exact reasons. If we had to travel, or if it were expensive, I wouldn’t be giving it another try.
Congrats on getting an entry! I hope you have a much better experience this time!
Thanks Mindy!
Congrats! I hope they fix the issues you mentioned, it’s always worth a second chance. Disney definitely listened to feedback from the first W&D weekend so I hope Cherry Blossom does the same.
I hope so too, Lesley.
Congrats! I hope it’s a much better experience for you this time around 🙂
Thanks!
cherry blossom is crowded but it remains one of my favorites. i just love the course and love the price and think it’s a great showcase race for dc. hope you have a better experience the second time around!
I loved the course, which is one of the reasons why I’m open to giving it another try.
I finally got into the lottery for Cherry Blossom last year and did not love it. It was SO crowded! I have issues with the 10 miler anyway for some reason. I didn’t enter the lottery again this year but one of these days I’ll give the 10 miler another go. Congrats on making it in!
It helps to know that I’m not the only person who has these feelings about last year’s race.
nope, not alone!!
I think it’s great that you’re willing to give the race another try! I had a horrible race experience this past September at a race that normally has great PR potential. I ran 20 minutes slower than I expected to because it was hot and something like 96% humidity that day. I just could NOT breathe the thick air. I have thought about possibly running it again, but I think if I do I will wait till race day to sign up to see if weather conditions permit next time 😀
When the weather can be iffy, waiting to register last minute is sometimes best.
I hope you have a better CB10 experience this year! Hopefully we will be in the same corral (the right one too) this time 🙂
edit* same corral again haha
Yes, hopefully so! 🙂
Congrats on your entry! I’ve always heard great things about this race so hopefully this year will be better.
I’m re-running the LA marathon this year as a redemption race as last year was crazy hot (almost 80 degrees in March at the beach is bad!) and I’m hoping for normal weather and a better time!
And I’m looking to rerun both Wine and Dine and Avengers as I was injured during them so even though I had a good time, I would love to do them again without the wind and rain and pain
Good luck with your redemption races!
Yey! Good luck!! I was bummed to find out that Cherry Blossom is the same weekend as Paris!
I’m running the Cherry Blossom 10 miler this year for the first time. I’ve heard good things from running friends, so agreeing with the other commenters that I hope your experience is better this year.
