Another week has come and gone, and I’m happy to report that it was a fantastic week of training! My week started off with Preston and I flying back from Illinois, and after a longer than expected travel day, it became an unexpected rest day. The extra rest paid off with not one but two speedy treadmill runs this week.
Yesterday I ran my last race of 2014, the Christmas Town Dash 8k at Busch Gardens. Although it was a bit windy yesterday for the race, both Preston and I had a fantastic time running through Busch Gardens. I’ll recap the race later this week, but spoiler alert: we both enjoyed it immensely and are already considering running the race again next year!
My one and only setback this week was some pain and swelling in my right foot. Its not unusual this time of year for my right foot and ankle to bother me, and I’m attributing my current pain to my chronically weak ankle. I had planned to spend some time on the elliptical Saturday morning, but decided that extra rest would be a better idea in preparation for Sunday’s race.
Despite my one setback, I had a great week of training.

QOTD: How does the cold weather affect your body?
Cold weather and asthma are not a great runner combination! Every winter it takes time for my body to adjust to the extreme cold.
I hear ya. My lungs are never happy when I run outside in the cold.
Great workout week. Cool medal. I bet that was a fun race. Sorry to hear your ankle has been bothering you a bit. Sometimes my knee hurts when running in the cold.
It was a blast!
Excited to hear about your 8K! Hope your foot is starting to feel better. As for cold weather I notice its been taking me longer to warm up and there were times it was difficult to breath. I’ve never worn a neck scarf or gaiter before, may need to invest in one for this winter if I plan on running outside in cold cold temps.
Its feeling better today, thanks!
Great week Kathryn! Congrats on a great race! Hope your foot and ankle start feeling better soon!
Thanks Mindy, they’re feeling much better today.
Wow, great job on those fast treadmill runs! I’ve had a tough time with my runs this week and maybe the cold air is part of it.
It could definitely be the cold air.
Sounds like a great week! My body doesn’t really react to cold, but Dallas weather goes from warm to cold back to warm in a week and my allergies are awful.
Roller coaster weather is never good for allergies.
How fun to run at Busch Gardens!! Great week for you! Congrats!
Thanks Sue!
