Its hard to believe that my big race of the fall season is in just three days!
In just three short days I’ll be toeing the start line of my second ten miler. Many of you are probably thinking that I’m bound to PR since I’ve PRed at several of my recent major races. And while I’d love to PR, there are a couple of factors working against me:
- This is course is hillier than the course that I ran for my first ten miler, the Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run.
- The weather forecast for Sunday morning is a bit questionable. Some weather sources are predicting a high probability of rain, while others aren’t calling for rain at all.
- The day before the race is going to be pretty busy. I’ll be at school Saturday morning proctoring the SAT, and then we’ll be headed to the expo downtown Saturday afternoon.
- I’m nervous about getting to the start of the race on time given the number of issues that runners had last year because of back ups on Metro and issues with the security lines at the Pentagon, which is where the start and finish lines are.
Despite what I have working against me, I’m trying to remain as optimistic as I can about running a solid race. I know that I’m well prepared physically, and I’m trying to be as positive as I can.
With all of that said, here are my goals for Sunday’s race:
Goal A – Finish the race in under 1:53:50 (11:23 pace) – my pace from Saturday’s eight mile training run
Goal B – Finish the race in under 1:58:44 (11:52 pace) – my Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run finish time
Goal C – Finish the race in under 2:00:00 (12:00 pace)
QOTD: What was the last race that you ran that you were a bit uncertain about your ability to PR?
Due to injuries last year it has been awhile since I made a PR attempt, but they are fun to do. Good luck this weekend!
Thanks Christy!
Have fun Kathryn!!! I’m wishing you a PR, great weather, and no issues with transportation!!!
Thanks Mindy!
Goodluck in your ten miler! You will do great. Just believe in yourself. Whenever I am uncertain about a race I over analyze everything and end up doing better than what I expected. Then wondered why I worried so much in the first place.
I’d love for that to happen this weekend!
Good luck! I hope the rain waits until after the race at least and there are no security issues. It sounds like a fun race.
It can pour all it wants Sunday afternoon while I’m at home resting (and probably napping).
Good luck!! Can’t wait to hear about it 🙂
Thanks!
Good luck!! Actually CB was probably one race I did not think I would PR at all, and one of my best races this year (along with the LOVE Run). I had stayed up late the night before, ate fried food, had a drink or two – all the no-nos. I guess I went in thinking I wouldn’t PR, so there was less pressure?
There is definitely that approach and mindset. 🙂
Good luck. Your B and C goals are basically my A and B goals.
Good luck to you Valerie!

Good luck to you! No matter what happens, just have fun!
Thanks Sue!
Wow, your 10 miler time for the Cherry Blossom is almost exact for my first 10 miler time! Weird! Best of luck on your upcoming one!
Thanks!
