Music has always played a huge role in my fitness activities. With dancing, music set the tone for each of my dances. With running, I find that music helps me to stay focused, especially during difficult runs. If I’m struggling, when one of my favorite running songs comes on I find it easier to refocus and get back into my running groove.
I haven’t updated my running playlist in awhile (and by awhile, I mean over a year!). I know its time to update it, and when I do I’ll be sure to keep these five favorites on it.
1. “Thunderstruck” by AC/DC
2. “Gonna Make You Sweat” by C+C Music Factory
3. “Rhythm Nation” by Janet Jackson
4. “P.Y.T.” by Michael Jackson
5. “Panama” by Van Halen
QOTD: What is your favorite running song?
As always, thank you to the DC Trifecta Bloggers (Courtney from Eat Pray Run DC, Mar from Mar on the Run, and Cynthia from You Signed Up For What?!) for hosting the weekly Friday Five Link Up. Be sure to check out their posts as well!
It’s my only when running song, Kickstart My Heart by Motley Crue. Great playlist!
Thanks Jill! Kickstart is a great song as well!
Awesome playlist Kathryn! I don’t run with music often but when I do “Eye of the Tiger” is always on my list! 😉
Great choice! Survivor is on my list as well!
NO WAY! Panama is like my all time running jam. It played during mile 7 of MCM (crazy that I remember this right?!) and I vividly remember looking at Danielle and saying “I’m having so much fun, when can I run another marathon?”. And forever after that race, it’s become a good song to boost my mood during long runs. Love this list. I’m definitely an 80s/90s pop junkie so I need to add 2 and 3 to my playlist.
80s and 90s music for the win!
Great songs. MY playlist is ancient too, but I think I updated it in January. 🙂 “Stronger” is a good one I try to put near the end to keep me going.
Great choice!
Great jams! I have a bunch of alternative songs on my playlist right now- some MGMT, Jacks Mannequin and The Killers. I also love me some Journey 😀
Nothing better than Journey! Don’t Stop Believing is also on my playlist!
PYT and Rhythm Nation FOR THE WIN! love this list, girl!
I bet our playlists are pretty similar.
Ha – I chose the same theme for my Friday Five 🙂 Great minds think alike. You can never go wrong with Michael or Janet Jackson! Have a great weekend!
Great minds do think alike. 🙂
You like the oldies but the goodies. I’m more of the hip hop. Anything with pitbull gets me going on a run.
Pitbull is definitely a great choice. And yes, I’m more of an oldies but goodies kind of girl with a little bit of modern mixed in.
My fav of all time is Empire State of Mind. It’s always on my playlist! Lately, too, I’ve added Best Day of My Life. Something about those two always picks me up 🙂
Pick me up songs are the best!
What a fun post!!! I haven’t been running with music outside but now that treadmill running is coming to be for cold winter months I need to get my playlist going!
Music is definitely a lifesaver on the treadmill.
These are all awesome songs!!! some of the best!
🙂
I love Gonna Make You Sweat and PYT!! My phone just ran a software upgrade and deleted my running playlist (also rather old…luckily my songs are in the cloud) – think I am going crowdsource for suggestions! Great list 🙂
I refuse to do the iOS update until some of the kinks are worked out.
