Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon Training Log – Week 18

What a fabulous week, but more importantly weekend, its been!  Between officially going back to work last Monday and having a very productive teacher back to work week, and then topping off the week with an incredible weekend down in Virginia Beach, I couldn’t have asked for a better week!  And if you haven’t heard already, this happened yesterday:

rnrvb resultsThat’s right folks, I met my goal pace for Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach, and PRed by 25 minutes!  The finish time I was texted yesterday by runner tracking was one second off from what’s now posted online, and I kept telling Preston yesterday, “I missed my goal by 14 seconds!”  But the reality is that I hit my goal pace and I really did reach my A goal!  My hard work and training this summer definitely paid off!  I can’t wait to see what I’m able to do on courses that are no where near as flat as Virginia Beach is.

Then to top off the exciting weekend, I went onto the RnRVB homepage this morning to look up my official results and found a familiar picture on the homepage.

And the reason why it looked familiar was because Rock ‘n’ Roll featured my Instagram photo on their blog yesterday!  How cool is that!

Seeing this on their blog was an incredible way to end a fabulous long weekend here in Virginia Beach!  I’ll of course recap the expo and race itself, and share how much fun Preston and I both had while we were here, which included meeting up with several bloggers.  We had a fabulous time, and are sad to see our mini racecation for me (and vacation for him) come to an end.  I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end my training cycle and my summer before I start school with my students tomorrow!

Although I only ran once during the week and took an unplanned rest day, I think it paid off yesterday during the race!

Mon 8/25 – 2.06 mile walk around the neighborhood with Riley

Tues 8/26 – 2.94 mile run around the neighborhood, 0.25 mile cool down walk

Wed 8/27 – 35 minutes on the elliptical, kettlebell squats, abs, chest, back, arms, shoulders, glutes

Thurs 8/28 – Rest day

Fri 8/29 – Rest day, travel to Virginia Beach

Sat 8/30 – Rest day

Sun 8/31 – Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon (according to RunKeeper I ran 13.42 miles)

Total Weekly Mileage – 22.02 miles (9 miles more than week 17)

Total Half Marathon Training Mileage – 263.89 miles

Like I said, I plan to recap both the expo and the race itself, but those posts might be a little slow coming.  Tomorrow I’ll share my September goals, and then on Wednesday be on the lookout for a giveaway!

  2. That’s a great picture! Congrats on meeting your “A” goal. I knew you could do it! Your. Training paid off. It looks like we hit the 10 mile mark at about the same time but I ended up falling behind pace at mile 11!
    So great to talk to you and Preston this weekend!

    Congrats on the PR and on your picture showing up on their blog! I have to tell you that in my second half marathon, I had similar results as you – I PRed by 19 minutes but missed my sub-2:30 goal by less than 30 seconds! I was upset for a moment but then realized that I had PRed by a crazy amount and that’s all that matters! I’m still working towards that sub-2:30 goal and should hopefully get there in a few weeks at my next half marathon!
