Are we really already halfway through 2014? It feels like New Year’s was just yesterday, and that I was finishing my preparations to run my first half marathon. And now I’m in the middle of my training cycle for my third half marathon – unbelievable!
For the month of June I decided to revisit my May goals since I felt as though I hadn’t succeeded in making significant progress in meeting my three goals. I’m beyond happy to report that I met two of my three goals, and that I made progress towards meeting the third.
1. Run, walk, and elliptical a total of 65 miles.
Grade: A
After two months of trying, I met my goal to log 65 miles in one month! Yesterday, I completed my 65th mile, and seeing my monthly stats yesterday on RunKeeper was so fulfilling.
2. Make yoga a higher priority.
Grade: C
While I did better about making time for yoga in June than I did in May, I could have done better, especially during the first half of the month.
3. Weight train at least twice a week.
Grade: A
Just like with my monthly mileage, finding time to weight train was always at the front of my mind this past month. I truly believe that my focus and dedication to weight training has contributed to my ability to also increase my running speed.
My theme for July is moving forward: moving forward to better things with Preston as we buy our first house, and fitness wise, moving forward with my half marathon training plan. Based on the progress that I made last month, and knowing how busy July is going to be with closing on our new house this week, and subsequently moving, I’m made the following three goals my priority for July.
1. Run, walk, and elliptical a total of 70 miles.
I met my 65 mile goal last month, so pushing myself to complete an additional 5 miles only seems natural.
2. Make yoga a priority.
For the past two months, I’ve pledged to make yoga a higher priority. It just needs to be a priority. Period.
3. Stay on track with my half marathon training.
There will be a lot going on in the coming month. We’ll be closing on our first house on Wednesday, working on painting over the long holiday weekend, and will be moving into our new house on July 12th. Unpacking and decorating our new house will be exciting, but I cannot let it keep me distracted from keeping on track with my training plan for Virginia Beach.
QOTD: What are your goals for July?
i DEFINITELY think that strength training helps increase your running speed. Keep it up, you’re doing a great job!
My biggest goal for July is to try to get runs/workouts done in the morning before summer school. A later start time means I can get up at my usual time and have no problem getting the workout in (in theory)
Great goal, Amy! I really need to do the same thing myself.
I think it’s awesome that you have monthly goals. Where did you start? I mean, how do I know what is a realistic goal for myself? What did you use to help you make that decision?
I’ve looked at mileage patterns in my RunKeeper account, and used those patterns as my starting point.
Congrats on meeting your mileage, strength training goals and closing on your first house!! It sounds like July will be fun and busy 🙂 Good luck on your July goals!
Thanks!
Great job with the goals! My goals from now until November are to stay on track with the half marathon training plan and strength train or yoga at least twice a week.
Great goals!
Great job with your goals Kathryn!!! I know that even though it will be a busy month for you that you will conquer those goals!
Thanks Mindy!
Great job Kathryn! I think strength training has def helped you with your speed! Let’s try to meet up Friday before/after the 5K.
Yes please! I’ll be wearing my red Team RWB shirt.
Sounds good! I’ll be wearing a red tank and most likely black capris. I’m picking up my bib that morning so I’ll prob be there on the earlier side. Hoping its not too humid Friday.
Great Goals! BodyPump has really helped my running!
