Rock ‘n’ Roll Virginia Beach Half Marathon Training Log – Week 8

What a week its been!  I’ve had so much going on – my school’s graduation was Wednesday evening, I’ve been very successful in keeping up with my training, and we started packing this weekend for our move into our new home.  Phew, I’m tired just thinking back on everything that I had going on this week!

The most exciting part of this past week was definitely starting to pack.  We spent much of this past weekend going through closets, and figuring out what needs to be donated and what needs to go to the dumpster.  But as I made my pile of stuff to donate, Riley decided that not everything should go.  He decided to start pulling my old Beanie Babies out of the donation pile and to make them his own.

Despite everything going on, I successfully stayed on track with my training, and managed to fit in an extra workout on the elliptical.  During my long run yesterday, the humidity was very low and the temperatures were not very high, at least compared to what they’ve been lately.  When I finished my run, I thought to myself that it had felt more like I’d been running during the spring time than on the second day of summer.  And then I saw this sidewalk chalk drawing in the parking lot where my car was, and I thought that there wasn’t a symbol more perfect for my run than this.


My long run yesterday was the perfect icing on the cake for this past week’s training.

Mon 6/16 – 2.92 mile treadmill run, 0.40 mile cool down walk, kettlebell squat swings, abs, glutes

Tues 6/17 – Rest day

Wed 6/18 – “Rest” day, aka attend graduation after a full day at work

Thurs 6/19 – 3.10 mile treadmill run, 0.54 cool down walk, legs, glutes, abs

Fri 6/20 – 35 minutes on the elliptical, 0.33 mile cool down walk, foam rolling, chest, back, arms, abs

Sat 6/21 – Rest day

Sun 6/22 – 7.15 mile run on the W&OD Trail, 0.41 mile cool down walk

Total Weekly Mileage – 17.27 miles  (2.29 miles more than week 7)

Total Half Marathon Training Mileage – 105.52 miles

I know that in the coming weeks as we move closer to closing on our townhouse and preparing to move that keeping up with my training isn’t going to be easy.  Fortunately, school ends on Wednesday, so I will have more time during the day to get my workouts in.  I can’t wait to see how I do in balancing my training schedule and the stressful demands of moving.

    If we had the magic answer for your QOTD we could travel the talk show circuit or write a book or something! Great training week. Summer is easy with training but once the school year starts, I return to work and my kids’ competitive seasons start life gets crazy.

  2. Yay, congrats on being done with school for the Summer! Now you can concentrate on the fun stuff! I’m so excited for your move!

  3. Great job on keeping up with your workouts! I work 9-5 M-F so when my week starts to get busy with meetings before or after work or social gatherings, I look at my schedule that week and decide what workouts need to be done in the morning or at night, or if I can squeeze in a fitness class during lunch. If a day is really crazy, I’ll switch that to my rest day.

    For me it’s all about keeping a schedule. If I have the whole day open to workout, that’s when I might not do it, because I’ll just keep thinking “I’ll do it later.” So on free days I always try to workout first thing in the morning!

    I’m training for the Philadelphia Rock n Roll half in September so I’m excited to keep reading about your training!

    You had a great week and Riley is so cute! 🙂 Moving is stressful for sure but running will probably help with that too. I know that I always feel less stressed when I get a good run in. 🙂 I have a pretty set schedule with my workouts that I rarely have to deviate from, but when I do I try to make it work. Or I take an unplanned rest day (I had one of those last week…sick kiddo.)

    My dog claims anything we pull out of the back of the closet, especially if it’s stuffed! Adorable. It’s hard to stay on track during busy weeks, even worse when it’s super hot in the middle of the day. I try to front load my miles on Mon/Tues/Weds so if I get behind I have the weekend to make them up.
