Vega Sport Review and Giveaway

As a part of my Fit Approach and Sweat Pink ambassadorship, I was given the opportunity to try out and review a Vega Sport product of my choice.  Given that the Vega Sport #FuelYourBetter campaign was scheduled to start right around the same time that I started my current half marathon training cycle, I opted to try out the Vega Sport Endurance Gel. fuelyourbetter According to Vega Sport, the endurance gel “is formulated to provide instant and sustained energy plus electrolytes and vitamins during workouts.  Developed for easy on-the-run digestion and featuring whole food ingredients, Endurance Gel is free from high fructose corn syrup and maltodextrin.”  Because it is all natural, I was very excited to try it out and compare it to the energy gels that I usually use on my long runs.

When I first received the Vega Sport Endurance Gels, I was shocked by the size of the packets.  They are bigger, contain more product, but have the exact same number of calories (100 to be exact), as the better known Gu Energy Gels.  I packed up a packet of each for my long run that weekend, and set out excited to test out the Vega Sport Endurance Gel. My excitement soon turned to distaste when I took the Vega Sport Endurance Gel around mile three point of my run that day.  The raspberry taste is a bit bitter for my liking, and the rough, almost sand like, texture is not what I’m used to.  I tried to eat the entire packet, but I just couldn’t do it.  On a positive note, I did, however, find that the Vega Sport Endurance Gel fueled me with a comparable amount of energy as Gu Energy Gels usually do, and in that sense, I was pleased with Vega Sport. The following week, I tried the Vega Sport Endurance Gel on another run, but again, had the same reaction to the bitter taste of the gel.  I prefer sweet, not bitter, tasting foods, so if you are one who prefers bitter tastes then you might find that Vega Sport Endurance Gels are for you. After a brief e-mail exchange with my Fit Approach contact, I was given the opportunity to test a second Vega Sport product.  I requested the Vega Sport Protein Bars, which I received in the newly released Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor.  I was very excited to taste test these bars, and have found that they are the perfect after work snack when I need to refuel my body for an afternoon workout at the gym.  They’re filling, and I think the taste compares to other chocolate protein bars that I’ve previously tried out.

The Vega Sport Protein Bars are perfect for those who have a gluten intolerance and/or those who are after natural food products, as they are “non-GMO, gluten-free and made without artificial flavors, colors or sweeteners.”  They’re also available in three different flavors: Chocolate Coconut, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Chocolate Mint flavors.     I would not be able to handle the texture the Vega energy gels with a bitter taste either. I think fuel while running needs to be easily taken. While I do not like anything gel like normally, GU works perfectly for me and it will be my first choice every time!

    I really like the Vega recovery accelerator to fuel my better. I’d like to try the protein bars too, very good for on-the-go.

    I’m a big fan of the Pre-Workout Energizer drink. Haven’t tried the gels yet but would like to.

  4. I’ll be starting WDW Marathon training an about a month and have been looking for new fueling options. Tried Gu for the first time last weekend. Very interesting.

    Right now, I use Island Boost gel since it’s gluten free! I’d love to try Vega since it’s also gluten free!

  8. I’ve just started experimenting with different gels. I’m not gonna lie, at first I was skeptical about all gels. But they’ve really grown on me! I’m excited to try this one out, I’m always up for trying something new.

    Vega is a company I trust to #fuelyourbetter! The gels are one of the few things I’ve never tried from Vega.

    I use ClifKids Chocolate Brownie bars during long races and Gatorade. I tried GU but it never made me feel great.

  25. I’ve only ever tried the ClifShots before, so I’d be intrigued to try the Vega version. I like there protein powder, so I’m curious about this bitter taste!
