Happy National Running Day! Each year on the first Wednesday of June runners across the world come together to celebrate the wonderful sport of running. Although running is an individual sport, the running community is composed of so many like minded individuals, most of whom support one another. The presence of the running community is no more felt through any venue than it is online, particularly through the use of blogging and social media.
Each year on National Running Day, runners are encouraged to proclaim why it is that they run. Last year I celebrated National Running Day after having been running for less than three months. I had just recently signed up to run my first half marathon, and was running to prove to myself that I could set my mind to something and accomplish it.
Although this is still one of the many reasons that I still run, over the past year I have also found running to be exhilarating. Having now completed two half marathons, as well as a ten miler, a couple of 10ks, and a handful of 5ks, crossing the finish line of any race, particularly of the Disney World Half Marathon in January and the Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Half Marathon in March, left me feeling on top of the world. As I further progress with my running, I am more and more encouraged to push myself that much harder to see what is possible for me to accomplish.
I cannot wait to see what I push myself to conquer over the next year, and what I’ll be celebrating next year on National Running Day!
