Happy Memorial Day everybody! While most people are spending today celebrating a day off from work, don’t forget to take a moment to give thanks for all the great service men and women who have served our country, particularly those whose lives have been sacrificed as the expense of protecting our country. I’m beyond thankful for the sacrifices that all of the members of our military have made on our behalf, as well as their family members who have also had to make sacrifices for the good of our country.
One of the things I love most about Memorial Day weekend is that it marks the unofficial start to summer, and that its opening weekend for the pools! I was able to spend some time relaxing at the pool over the weekend, which was well earned given that my long run this week was 6.68 miles.
If you read my post on Thursday, then you know what a roller coaster of a week it was in regards to house hunting. Despite how busy things were, I still managed to have a very productive week of training. I’m a bit behind on logging a full 65 miles for the month, and I’m not sure I’m going to meet my mileage goal this month, but I’m trying to not beat myself up too much given how busy the last several weeks have been. I’ve kept on top of my running schedule, and just haven’t been able to add in additional cross training like I had hoped to.
Mon 5/19 – 2.00 mile treadmill run, 0.65 mile cool down walk, kettlebell squat swings, abs
Tues 5/20 – Rest day
Wed 5/21 – 3.10 mile treadmill run, 0.55 mile cool down walk, glutes, abs, legs arms
Thurs 5/22 – Rest day
Fri 5/23 – Rest day
Sat 5/24 – 6.68 mile run on the W&OD Trail, 0.59 mile cool down walk
Sun 5/25 – Walked around the zoo (time and mileage untracked)
Total Weekly Mileage – 13.57 miles (2.66 miles less than week 3)
Total Half Marathon Training Mileage – 53.74 miles
Instead of my usual Monday Motivation, I wanted to a moment to thank the veteran I am most thankful for, my husband. As I’ve shared before, he served seven years in the Army, five years of active duty and another almost two years in the reserves. Be sure to take a moment today to give thanks for all those who have served our country, particularly those who are close to your heart.
QOTD: What do you love most about Memorial Day weekend?
Your training is going great! You’re 4 weeks ahead of my training. 🙂 I’m doing the VA Beach RNR too. I have a doctor’s appt on the 2nd and hopefully this heel pain isn’t too terribly bad and I’ll be able to start training soon!
I’ll be hoping that the doc gives you good news next week!
What a great pic and week! I love remembering WHY we have so many freedoms and remembering those who helped us with that!
Absolutely! Its often easy to forget, but so important not to.
Love the pics! You are rocking your training – keep it up! Thanks to your husband for serving our country. Hope this long weekend was restful!
