Recently I was nominated by not one, not two, not three, not four, but five different bloggers for the Liebster Award. To have been nominated for this award by five different bloggers is not only flattering but also a bit overwhelming. Thanks to Erin from Love for Running, Jayme from The Road to Physical Fitness, Jennifer from The Final Forty, Mindy from Road Runner Girl, and Kimberley from Black Dog Runs Disney for nominating me. You ladies are all amazing, and your kind nominations are beyond flattering!
So how does the Liebster Award work? Once nominated, here’s what you’re supposed to do:
- Answer the 10 questions the nominee has asked of you.
- Link back to the person who nominated you.
- Choose 10 bloggers to nominate.
- Ask your nominees 10 of your own questions.
- Notify your nominees of the nomination on their blog.
With fifty questions from my five nominators, I’ve opted to answer a couple from each blogger (there was also some overlap in the questions asked). I would hate to bore you with fifty responses to fifty questions!
What was your first race, and what was the distance? (from Erin)
My first race was the Jaguar 5k in April 2013.
What is your biggest accomplishment? (from Erin and Jennifer)
To date, my biggest accomplishment was running my two half marathons – the Disney World Half Marathon back in January, and the Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Half Marathon back in March. After always being told that “dancers can’t run,” I refused to continue to hold myself to society’s expectations, pushed my own physical boundaries, and proved to myself that I could do anything that I set my mind to.
What is my first childhood memory? (from Jayme)
My first memory is from the day that my youngest sister was born. I was seven, and my other sister and I were at an after school science program. My mom usually picked us up, but that day my godmother picked us up, and when she arrived she told us that we were headed to the hospital to meet my new sister!
What do I do for a living? (from Jennifer)
I teach high school Social Studies. This year I’m teaching AP World History, Honors World History 2, and standard level World History 2.
What is your biggest pet peeve? (from Jayme and Jennifer)
The one thing that bothers me most is laziness. While the internet is a great resource, it is often abused and students would rather Google something and rely on the first search result that pops up instead of completing an assignment in the manner that is expected of them. At school, I often worry about my students when I witness lazy patterns and habits and that when they graduate they’ll expect to have everything handed to them on a silver platter. Unfortunately, this is a huge concern among many teachers about the current student generation.
How do I destress? (from Jayme and Mindy)
This is something that I’m working to become better at every day. Since I was in the hospital at the end of February, yoga has been helping me to significantly reduce my stress level.
Other than running, what are some of my hobbies? (from Jennifer)
I absolutely love photography and scrapbooking. I used to spend much more time focusing on both of these, and I hope to spend more time focusing on both of these this summer once the school year ends.
When and why did you start blogging? (from Jennifer and Mindy)
I started blogging in March 2013, two weeks after I started running. The main reason I started blogging was, like many other fitness bloggers, I wanted a way to keep myself accountable for my training. I never imagined that my blog would blossom into what it has today!
What is my favorite time of year? (from Mindy)
I love Spring and Summer for different reasons. I hate being cold, as well as the short and dark days of Winter, and always look forward to Spring when not only it starts to warm up but everything starts to bloom. Because I love lazy afternoons by the pool, I absolutely love the Summer.
What is my favorite place that I’ve traveled to? (from Erin)
Preston and I spent two weeks in Hawaii for our honeymoon back in 2011, splitting our time between Oahu, the Big Island, and Maui. I can’t wait until we’re able to make a return trip to Hawaii!
If I could travel anywhere in the world where would I go? (from Mindy)
I’ve never been to Europe. At one point Preston and I started working on putting together a dream trip to Italy, but unfortunately time and money got in the way of following through on that dream. Hopefully I’ll be able to get to Italy sooner than later.
What is my favorite TV show? (from Kimberley)
I’ll admit it, I’m a huge Bachelor/Bachelorette fan. Its my guilty pleasure. I can’t wait until Andi’s season of The Bachelorette starts on May 19th.
What is my favorite dog breed? (from Kimberley)
Given that Riley is an English Springer Spaniel, I think that’s an easy answer.
What is my favorite blog post? (from Kimberley)
Hands down, my favorite blog post is my Disney World Half Marathon recap. There’s nothing like rereading it and reliving my amazing first half marathon experience.
And now for my Liebster Award nominees. I’ve tried to include bloggers who haven’t been previously, or at least recently nominated. In no particular order:
