Last night was one of those evenings when I had several thoughts running through my head all at once.
1. The craziness of runDisney registration has once again begun.
Yesterday at noon, preregistration for Marathon Weekend in January opened. General registration opens next Tuesday. As with the past several runDisney event registrations, Marathon Weekend is expected to sell out quickly, and its been entertaining to watch others’ posts on Facebook and Twitter about the anxiety and excitement of registering. Although Marathon Weekend holds a special place in both my and Preston’s hearts (its where he ran his first marathon in 2013 and where I ran my first half marathon earlier this year), it doesn’t look like we’ll be returning to Disney World for Marathon Weekend in 2015. While I’m a bit bummed about it, I know that eventually we’ll be able to return and run another race at the place where we both ran these milestone races.
2. Staycations can be just as relaxing and rejuvenating as traveling for a vacation can be.

I was able to enjoy these gorgeous tulips outside of the National Gallery of Art during my walk on the National Mall on Monday
With this week being Spring Break and Preston not having enough leave from work at the moment for us to be able to travel (he needs the leave this summer for several events on our calendar), I’ve been spending this week at home relaxing and catching up on some much needed sleep as well as many chores around our apartment. The weather last weekend and on Monday was just as warm and sunny as many places further south, and although it sleeted Tuesday evening and was pretty cold yesterday, the summer like weather was definitely a welcome way to kick off my week off from work.
3. FaceTime is one of the best inventions ever. Period.
With me being home this week I was able to FaceTime the other day with one of my dearest friends, Linda, who moved to Germany back in December. Not being at work made it much easier for us to talk during daytime hours for both of us, and talking on FaceTime is definitely much more enjoyable than just texting back and forth. I loved being able to interact with her in real time and not just wait for the next text message to arrive!
QOTD: Will you be running during Marathon Weekend in 2015? Do you prefer staycations or vacations? What are your thoughts on FaceTime?
You may not be able to return in 2015, but there will be plenty of other fun races to do 🙂 Glad you were able to get some house chores done, relax & even face time w/ your dearest friend. Sounds like you really made the best out of your staycation!
You’re absolutely right, Jessie. Part of why we made the choice to not run during Marathon Weekend in 2015 is because of our long bucket list of races. 🙂
I love a staycation! I generally don’t do them because I budget my leave time for going out of town but I love a few dedicated days for projects or to catch up around the house. Glad you’re enjoying your break! 🙂
I hear ya, Christine. Preston never takes leave to be at home unless he’s sick, but given that I didn’t have a choice about when Spring Break was and Preston is tight on leave right now, it was an easy choice for a staycation this week. 🙂
What did we ever do without FaceTime and Skype?!
Some of the best inventions ever!
No Marathon Weekend for me in 2015 and I’m totally good with it. I’ll satisfy my runDisney itch with Wine and Dine instead. 🙂
Thanks to being misinformed by Sprint last year, once we arrived in Italy we found our phones wouldn’t work. Thank goodness for FaceTime! I wouldn’t have been able to “visit” with the Wonder Mutt otherwise!! 🙂
Gotta keep in touch with our loved ones, including our pets! 🙂
I don’t think I’m running marathon weekend 2015, that doesn’t mean I won’t change my mind before Tuesday though!
I also wanted you to know I’ve nominated you for a Liebster Award! You can check out the details here http://halfwaytothecastle.blogspot.com/2014/04/liebster-award.html
Thanks for the nomination! Its greatly appreciated!
I won’t be at Disney in January this year either. I can only afford to do one Disney race a year. It’s been a few years since I’ve run the Princess Half so I’m running that one this next year instead of marathon weekend. FaceTime is the best thing ever!!! Hope you’re enjoying your spring break!
I hear ya about the high costs, Mindy. The higher runDisney registration costs become, the fewer of the races we’ll be able to do. Hope you’re enjoying your Spring Break as well!
Sorry to hear that you won’t be going to Disney Marathon Weekend. My sister and I decided we are going to do the Goofy Challenge. This will be my second Disney Marathon(1st was 2013) and both of ours first Goofy Challenge. How crazy that registration is next week already for it.
It feels like just yesterday that we were there for Marathon Weekend! Good luck to you and Meranda as you prepare for Goofy. I can’t wait to hear all about it!
I’m in for Dopey in 2015! and I love all of your recaps from your marathon weekends. They definitely got me pumped!
So glad you enjoyed the recaps! Good luck to you as you train for Dopey!
