runDisney’s Newest Addition: The Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend

After much speculation over the past weeks and months, the much anticipated runDisney announcement about its newest race was made yesterday morning.

This coming November, runDisney will host a third race weekend at Disneyland, the Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend.  Weekend events will include a half marathon, 5k, and Kids Races.  Registration opens on March 25th.

I must admit, I’m not very impressed by the theme of this race, or the time of year its being held.  I’m not a huge super heroes fan.  The race is also scheduled for the weekend after the Wine and Dine Half Marathon at Disney World, which seems a bit odd given that the Tinkerbell Half Marathon is being moved to May in 2015 instead of continuing to be held in January the weekend after Marathon Weekend at Disney World.

Although I was curious to find out what runDisney had up its sleeve, I wasn’t holding very high expectations after hearing the circulated rumors about future Avengers or Star Wars themed races.  Disneyland is much further and much more costly for us to travel to, and traveling to California in mid-November is pretty unrealistic given my school schedule.

But I know that there are huge Avengers fans out there, and if you are one, I’m sure you’re very excited about the newest addition to the runDisney race calendar.  And if you thinking about signing up for this race, I hope your wish comes true!

QOTD: What are your thoughts on runDisney’s announcement about the new Avengers Half Marathon weekend?

    So fun!!! Wow, love this!!!

  2. My boys LOVE The Avengers! I’d probably run it at least once…if it was in Disney World. Disneyland is halfway across the US from me…it would be a very expensive trip and I’d rather run Tinkerbell instead. 🙂

  3. Chaitali says:

I love the theme and understand why they put it at Disneyland instead of Disneyworld, but that makes it unlikely I will be able to do it. Though if there was ever anything that would get my husband into running this would be it 🙂

It’s exciting that Disney continues to add to their races, but I will not be considering this one either! Not into Super Heroes at all (if the Star Wars one plays out in Disneyworld, I’m not into that either), but I’m sure this race will sell out quickly!

  5. Jennifer says:

Wow thanks for sharing – I had no idea about this! It will definitely be appealing to those comic book fans!

  6. Honestly it does not excited us at all! It just doesn’t feel as Disney-ish to me!

  7. It is an interesting choice of theme. I would be happy with any theme really just to do one of their races 😉

  8. I found this kind of interesting…I didn’t know Disney had the rights to Avengers! I’m a fan of the movies, but I must say, putting it the weekend after Wine and Dine is going to keep me from doing it this year. Disney World is an hour from me…much more affordable for me than going across the country! Maybe next year…
