Its hard to believe that back in March I made the decision to run my first half marathon. Preston was originally planning to run the Goofy Challenge, but when the Dopey Challenge was introduced in late March Preston decided he had to take on the inaugural challenge. We’ve had our sights on Marathon weekend for nearly nine months now, and now the time has finally come for us to head down to Orlando!
We started packing last week, and finally finished packing late last night. We had initially hoped to only check one bag and carry everything else on, but as we gathered more and more items for my two races and Preston’s four, we quickly accumulated enough to warrant checking two suitcases. Our carry ons are filled with our running shoes and clothes (minus my Minnie Mouse tutu that doesn’t fit – I’ll be super sad if our bags get lost!), and our checked bags have everything else we’ll need over the course of the next seven days.
We’re also facing some very extreme temperature changes. I was blessed with a surprise “snow day” today since my school district was hesitant to have students waiting outside for buses or walking to school in single digit temperatures and wind chills well below zero. Sadly, the cold has also irritated my weak right ankle – I just hope that as we transition from 7 degrees (yes, its currently that cold here in Northern Virginia), to a forecasted high of 84 degrees in Orlando on Saturday that not only my ankle starts to feel better but that the extreme temperature change doesn’t cause either myself or anybody else traveling to Disney World to get sick.
We’re all set to fly out early this evening. We’ll be kicking off the Marathon weekend fun at the Expo tomorrow morning, and then we’ll be off to Magic Kingdom in the afternoon!
QOTD: Will you be running at Marathon weekend? Which race(s) will you be participating in?
