As each day passes, its surreal to think that I’m getting closer and closer to Marathon weekend. What’s even more surreal is that today marks only 30 days until the big day – 30 days until I complete my first half marathon!
I know I keep saying it, but its amazing how quickly time has been passing. Thankfully (knock on wood), I haven’t faced any major illness or injury during my training. Sure, I’ve been run down at times, I battled a sinus infection back in September (but somehow still PRed while sick at the Perfect 10 10K), and my ankle and hamstring have been bothersome at times, but nothing has steered me too far of course of my training plan.
And in the next 30 days, I know I need to be extra diligent about taking care of myself. Now is not the time to let myself get seriously sick or injured. And with as much as I have piled up on both my life and training calendars, I cannot afford to get sidetracked by illness or injury.

Throughout my training I’ve been keeping my eye on the prize – the Donald medal that I’ll receive once I finish my first half marathon

I’m certain that the next 30 days will fly by. Some of what stands between myself and my first half marathon includes:
Eight days of work (gotta love that our school district is giving us two full weeks off this year for the holidays!)
Two more long runs before I start to taper – 11.5 miles this weekend and 13.1 miles the weekend before Christmas
Five days in Illinois to celebrate Christmas with my parents and sisters
An overnight trip to New Jersey to celebrate Christmas with my in-laws
A quick two night trip the weekend before we leave for Orlando
26 days until we leave for Disney World
Over the next 30 days, there’s much to accomplish and think over. runDisney released the course maps and corral placements for Marathon weekend yesterday, which of course makes the reality of my upcoming half marathon all that more real. Its hard to believe that its right around the corner and that the decision I made back in March to train for my first half marathon will soon be reality!
QOTD: What are you most looking forward to in the next 30 days?
The time is going to FLY especially with all the holiday fun! Good luck! I hope you have an amazing race!
Thanks Lindsey! I’m very much looking forward to the big day!
So exciting! My first Half is going to be the Disney Princess Half in February and I’m so excited I can’t stand it! I think Disney races sound like the best way to break into half marathon running!
I completely agree, Kristen. My husband ran his first marathon at Disney World, and says that he wouldn’t have chosen to run his first anywhere else. Good luck to you with your training! Princess will be here before you know it!
It feels like I just ran the W&D and now this is looming BIG!! Kudos to us both for tackling Half #1 for you and 2 WDW Halfs inside of 8 weeks for me! Let’s do this thing!!!!
