We’re finally all booked and ready for January’s trip to Disney World for Marathon Weekend! Although we registered for the races back in April, it was just this week that we finished up all of our travel reservations. We kind of worked backwards for this trip – made our dining reservations back in July, booked our hotels earlier this month, bought our plane tickets this week, and reserved the rental car this morning. Not exactly the way we usually plan our vacations, but its done now!
Preston and I super excited about what lies ahead for this trip! Since we’re flying in late Tuesday night and are not planning on going to the parks until after the expo on Wednesday, we’re staying off site Tuesday night. I will complete my last training run Wednesday morning at the hotel, and then we’ll kick off our Disney vacation with the marathon weekend expo. Although I went to the expo this past January with Preston, I’m excited to experience my first runDisney expo as a runner!
We’re also excited about where we’ll be staying while at Disney – at Coronado Springs. This will be my first time staying at this resort, and Preston hasn’t stayed here in over five years. We’re both excited about staying here, as are my parents, who will be joining us for the Disney fun starting on Friday. This will be their first time at Disney World since I was six years old. Although theme parks aren’t really my parents’ thing, they’re very excited about coming down to support Preston and I during the half and full marathons, and my mom is very excited at the idea of leaving the cold Illinois winter weather behind for a couple of days.
We’ve made reservations for some of our favorite restaurants, including Le Cellier and ‘Ohana, and are excited to try out some new places, including Tutto Italia and San Angel Inn. I’m especially excited that we’ll also be able to experience dinner at Be Our Guest!
Now all that stands between us and Disney is 11 more weeks of training, lining up my substitute for the four days of school that I’ll miss, writing sub plans, and of course packing. Here’s our current countdown:
72 days until we leave for Orlando
73 days until the expo
74 days until Preston kicks off the Dopey Challenge with the 5K
75 days until the inaugural Walt Disney World 10K
76 days until I run my first half marathon
77 days until Preston runs his second marathon and completes the Dopey Challenge
QOTD: What major race are you currently counting down to? Other than the race itself, what other planning do you have to do for your upcoming race?
