Just as many other members of the running community have done this week, Preston and I completed our long train for the week in honor of the victims from the Boston Marathon bombing. Its been amazing to witness the outpouring of support for those that were not only injured and killed, but the thousands of family members affected by this horrible act of senselessness. Although neither of us directly knows any of the Boston victims, we have both encountered enough tragedy in our lives, particularly Preston during his active duty time in Iraq, that we felt that it was important that we still honor the victims and families from this week’s incident.
Although we would have preferred to run for our long train this week, Preston and I have both been suffering from minor calf pain since last weekend’s long train. Because we are running the Jaguar 5K next weekend, we’re trying to take it easy in order to prevent injury. Under the idea of “no pain no gain” we still got out on the W&OD Trail and completed a 5.80 mile walk with our dog Riley, the first 4.09 miles we dedicated in honor of Boston.
