As I’ve started running over the past couple of weeks, I’ve come to realize that each week as I’m striving to meet my weekly goals that I’m also in search of a new motivation that will keep me going. This week, that motivation is the start of FCPS’ Thrive Across America challenge. When we first learned of the Thrive challenge a couple of weeks ago, one of my coworkers suggested that I be the Team Captain for the Social Studies department team. She commented that it would nicely compliment my new found desire to run. Since then, she and I have been campaigning some of our coworkers to join us in this challenge.
Today marks the first day of the challenge. As a team, we earn stars for each exercise activity that we complete over the next eight weeks, and we are in competition for weekly prizes with other fitness teams across FCPS. Because I don’t want to only focus on running and eliminate all other physical activities that I already enjoy, including the use of the elliptical, weight training, and walking my dog Riley, this challenge seems like it’ll be the perfect way to balance all of them while still ensuring that I’m on track to run my first half marathon next January.
Last week I installed the Thrive app on my phone. Along with my RunKepper app, I should be set to go to keep myself on track for both successfully leading my Thrive team in this challenge while also keeping on track with my training plan.
And with that, I’m off to the gym for a run!
